Developer Profile--Mike Upchurch |
Armed with an honors degree in International Relations, Mike found it more fortitious to use his talents for building software rather than practicing in international law. "After my bachelor's degree, I was going for a law degree at George Washington University, but went into computers instead," he noted. "Turned out it was a much better decision." Mike originally began building solutions for a Nashville, Tennessee-based software company and has seen his creations used in nearly 1,000 businesses around the county. For the past 15 years, Mike has been in business for himself, building software solutions in the MS Windows and open source envionments "as Open Source became more mature". "Partner2Partner Communications' latest software is focused on the Radiology Information System vertical market. More details on that product can be found at www.crisisanywhere.com," he said. The product manages "many radiology image centers using a hybrid Microsoft front end against an open source back end," Upchurch noted. Mike's first contribution to the Bondware PHP platform, RSS Syndicator, "seemed to be like a neat feature to have. And," he added, "it gave me a chance to learn more about Bondware." Mike chose to add the RSS Reader since "RSS has been through several generations and is fairly mature technology." The RSS Syndicator module, is a companion to the native RSS reader capabilty of Bondware 3.0 and gives customers "the ability to get your message out to more people without costing more money or duplication of effort", he noted. Mike believes the RSS technology will become more blended with Instant Messaging to "push content to a wider audience" and that RSS Syndicator is a first step in a bright future for Bondware RSS applications. |
